Cinnamon Chocolate Oatmeal

A thick, chocolatey oatmeal with added cinnamon for the ultimate Fall or Winter breakfast.
Servings: 1
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup soy milk , or any other milk you prefer (for thinner oatmeal see my note below)
  • 2 tsp 100% maple syrup
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • sliced almonds for topping (optional)

Method

  1. In a small pot over the stove, add oats, milk, and maple syrup. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Note: If you prefer thinner oats, add an additional 1/2 cup of milk.
  2. Cook oats until the milk has mostly been soaked up by the oats and becomes thick. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Be sure to stir frequently to prevent the milk from scalding.
  3. Once oats are at your desired texture, take them off the heat and mix in the cocoa powder and cinnamon until thoroughly combined.
  4. Scoop oatmeal into a bowl and top with sliced almonds for that added crunch. Enjoy!
