While Colorado Nutrition Counseling is considered out-of-network for all Anthem BCBS insurance plans, you might still have out-of-network coverage. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: At the time of service, you’ll be required to pay the full price of the nutrition appointment at $180.
Step 2: Within a week, Colorado Nutrition Counseling will submit a claim to your insurance plan on your behalf for the visit.
Step 3: You will then receive a reimbursement check from Anthem BCBS for partial payment of the visit.
My experience has been that they will reimburse you directly about $140 per visit making each visit only $40 in the long-run.
Please note that I cannot guarantee each plan will have the same out-of-network benefit or reimbursement rate. You will are responsible for calling your insurance plan to confirm you have this type of coverage as well as any deductibles that need to be met first.
If needed when discussing with the insurance representative, procedure codes that will be used when billing include 97802 (for first visits) and 97803 (for follow-up visits). Diagnosis code that will most likely be used is Z71.3 (Dietary Counseling and Surveillance). If you need any additional information, please reach out via my contact page.
